Cruise ship docked at Valparaíso Puerto Terminal de Pasajeros

For cruise passengers

Valparaíso Shore Excursions

Private tours from Valparaíso cruise port · Driver and English-speaking guide · Planned around your all-aboard time

When your ship docks at Valparaíso’s Puerto Terminal de Pasajeros (VTP), you have one day to see one of Latin America’s most singular cities — or to venture inland to the Casablanca wine valley, Pablo Neruda’s Isla Negra home, or the heart of Santiago. We meet you at the terminal, guide you privately in English, and make sure you’re back at the ship well before the all-aboard call. OCATOUR has been receiving cruise passengers in Valparaíso since 1992, and every itinerary is built around one non-negotiable: getting you back on time.

Why book directly with OCATOUR

  • Private only. No shared vans, no group tours, no shopping stops. Your vehicle, your guide, your pace.
  • Driver plus an English-speaking guide, not just a driver who speaks a few words.
  • Built around all-aboard. We plan the day backwards from your all-aboard time, with margin for the drive back to port.
  • Same-day itinerary flexibility. If the ship is delayed docking or you want to add a stop, we adjust on the spot.
  • 34+ years in Valparaíso. We know every road, every winery back door, every alternate route when Ruta 68 is closed.

Meeting point at the Valparaíso cruise terminal

We meet you inside the VTP arrivals hall with a printed “OCATOUR” sign visible from the disembarkation walkway. Once your ship is cleared by port authorities, disembarkation typically takes 15 to 20 minutes for private tour guests — faster than the shore excursion crowds queuing for the cruise line’s own buses. Your driver has your ship’s dock time, your cabin’s disembarkation letter code and a mobile number in case anything shifts. If you’re on a tender port day (rare in Valparaíso, common in some smaller Chilean ports we cover), we coordinate with the tender queue times before you disembark.

Sample itinerary: Valparaíso, Viña del Mar & Casablanca wine tasting

Ship arrives 07:00, all-aboard 17:00. This is our most-requested full-day excursion:

  • 07:30 — Meet at VTP arrivals hall
  • 08:00 — Cerro Alegre and Cerro Concepción: century-old funiculars, UNESCO-listed hills, panoramic viewpoints, street art
  • 09:30 — Coffee break at a hillside café with harbour view
  • 10:00 — Drive to Viña del Mar: Flower Clock, coastal boulevard, Wulff Castle
  • 11:30 — Depart toward Casablanca Valley (35 minutes)
  • 12:15 — Boutique winery visit: guided tour of the cellars and tasting of 2 whites (Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay) and 1 red (Pinot Noir), plus a light lunch platter
  • 14:30 — Return toward Valparaíso via the coast
  • 15:30 — Drop-off at VTP terminal, 90 minutes before all-aboard

Every stop is discretionary — if you fall in love with a viewpoint, we stay longer; if you want to skip the winery, we swap in a longer walk through the hills. That flexibility is what “private” actually means.

Available shore excursion routes

  • Valparaíso + Viña del Mar + Casablanca winery — the classic full day (7-8 hours)
  • Valparaíso + Santiago city tour — hills in the morning, Santiago’s historic centre in the afternoon (8 hours)
  • Isla Negra + Pablo Neruda’s house + Valparaíso lookouts — for literature and coast lovers (6-7 hours)
  • Valparaíso hills, funiculars & street art — half day for shorter port calls (4 hours)

Holland America Line · Ponant. We work directly with you, the passenger, not through the cruise line.

Back on board with time to spare

We plan every shore excursion backwards from your all-aboard time, with margin for the return to port, and follow Ruta 68 traffic during the day. When we quote, we confirm what time you’ll be back at the terminal.

Getting a quote

Pricing depends on the date, the route and your group size. Send us your ship’s name, the port-call date and how many of you there are, and we’ll send you a quote with the itinerary and what it includes.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if the ship’s arrival is delayed?

We monitor your ship’s arrival on the port’s live feed. If you’re late in, we adjust the itinerary in real time and prioritise the stops you most want.

Do you accept ship-issued shore excursion vouchers?

No — we’re an independent operator, not a cruise line contractor. You book with us directly, and you’re not tied to the shore excursion desk’s timing.

Can we book last-minute (day of arrival)?

Subject to availability. Ship days are our busiest, so we recommend booking at least 5 days ahead. If you’re onboard and want to book last-minute, message us on WhatsApp — the ship’s Wi-Fi is enough.
