The Casablanca Valley sits between Valparaíso and Santiago, close enough to both cruise ports that a wine-focused shore excursion is genuinely realistic — not a rushed one-winery photo stop. In four to five hours from the terminal you can visit two boutique wineries with a proper cellar tour and structured tasting, walk the vineyards and be back at the ship with hours to spare. Casablanca is Chile’s cool-climate white wine capital: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grown 30 km from the Pacific, chilled by morning fog and afternoon sea breeze.

- From Valparaíso (VTP): 45 km, 40-50 minutes each way. Comfortable for any port call from 07:00.
- From San Antonio (STI): 60 km, 55 minutes each way via the coastal route. Ideal for wine-focused days.
Sample itinerary: Casablanca in half a day
Ship arrives 07:00, all-aboard 17:00. Our standard Casablanca run:
- 08:00 — Meet at cruise terminal (VTP or STI)
- 08:15 — Depart toward Casablanca Valley
- 09:00 — Winery 1: Bodega RE — a modern estate blending grape varieties in unusual ways, known for its Syrah/Pinot Noir “Pinotel” and biodynamic vineyard practices. Guided tour, cellar visit, tasting of 3 wines.
- 10:30 — Drive through the valley (10 minutes to Winery 2)
- 10:45 — Winery 2: Casas del Bosque — one of Chile’s most awarded cool-climate producers, with a Sauvignon Blanc that regularly scores above 92 points. Vineyard walk, tasting of 3 wines paired with cheese and olives.
- 12:30 — Optional light lunch at the winery restaurant (à la carte)
- 13:30 — Return toward the cruise terminal
- 14:30 — Drop-off at the port, well before all-aboard
Casablanca has more than 20 wineries; if you have specific styles or producers in mind, we swap in different estates. Kingston Family Vineyards, Emiliana (biodynamic) and Loma Larga are among the most-requested substitutes.
Why Casablanca is worth the shore excursion
- Not just any wine region: Casablanca is cited internationally for its Sauvignon Blanc (bright citrus, mineral) and Chardonnay (restrained, unoaked or lightly oaked). If you know Sonoma or Marlborough, this is Chile’s answer.
- Boutique scale: the wineries are small enough that the winemaker or a family member often does the tour personally. Very different from the industrial giants nearer to Santiago.
- Landscape: the valley is 30 km inland but at almost the same latitude as the port; you see Chile’s coastal cordillera and Pacific fog in one hour of driving.
- Reasonable time: unlike Colchagua (3 hours south of Santiago) or the Maipo big-producer trail, Casablanca fits inside a comfortable half-day from the port.

Frequently asked questions
Can we buy wine to take back to the ship?
Yes. Most wineries ship internationally and are used to cruise passengers taking bottles onboard. Check your cruise line’s policy on bringing wine aboard.
Are the tours in English?
Yes. Both wineries in our standard itinerary offer tours in English by trained sommeliers or estate staff. If you’re travelling in a group that prefers Portuguese, French or German, let us know when you book and we coordinate with the winery in advance.
What if I don’t drink alcohol?
The wineries pour by the sip, and the tasting is optional — you can join the tour, walk the vineyards and skip the pour without any awkwardness. We tell them in advance if that’s your preference.
