Santiago Shore Excursion from Cruise Port
Private Santiago tour for cruise passengers arriving in Valparaíso or San Antonio · Driver and English-speaking guide · Planned around your all-aboard time
If your ship calls at Valparaíso or San Antonio and you want to spend the day in Chile’s capital, this shore excursion is built for you. Santiago is 115 to 125 kilometres inland — a manageable full-day round trip if the itinerary is planned around Ruta 68 (Valparaíso) or Ruta 78 (San Antonio) traffic. We meet you at the terminal, drive you privately, walk the city with you in English, and have you back on board comfortably before the all-aboard call.
Available from both ports
- From Valparaíso (VTP): 125 km, 90-105 minutes each way depending on traffic. Best for ship arrivals from 07:00 and all-aboard from 17:30.
- From San Antonio (STI): 115 km, 90 minutes each way. Best for arrivals 07:00-08:00 and all-aboard 18:00 onward.
Sample itinerary: Santiago in a day from the cruise port
Ship arrives 07:00, all-aboard 18:00. This is our standard full-day Santiago run:
- 07:30 — Meet at the cruise terminal (VTP or STI)
- 07:45 — Depart toward Santiago via Ruta 68 or Ruta 78
- 09:15 — Arrive at Santiago; start at Plaza de Armas and the Metropolitan Cathedral
- 10:00 — La Moneda presidential palace (guard change if timing allows)
- 10:45 — Barrio Lastarria: cafés, bookshops, GAM cultural centre
- 11:30 — Santa Lucía Hill: colonial fortress, panoramic viewpoints
- 12:30 — Lunch in Bellavista or Lastarria (à la carte)
- 14:00 — San Cristóbal Hill funicular and viewpoint over the city and the Andes
- 15:30 — Optional stop: Costanera Sky observation deck or Vega Central market
- 16:15 — Depart Santiago toward the port
- 17:45 — Drop-off at cruise terminal, ~15 minutes before all-aboard
Times shift with your ship’s schedule and the season’s traffic patterns. In November-December especially, we start the return earlier because Santiago’s afternoon rush intensifies.
What you’ll see
- Historic centre — Plaza de Armas, Cathedral, Central Post Office, Municipal Theatre
- Government quarter — La Moneda, the Constitutional Court, the citizen plaza with the presidential motorcade route
- Lastarria — the walkable arts district, best for pausing at a wine bar or independent bookshop
- Santa Lucía Hill — where the city was founded in 1541, with cannons, terraces and panoramic viewpoints
- Bellavista and San Cristóbal Hill — Pablo Neruda’s Santiago house (from outside), the funicular, the Virgin of Immaculate Conception viewpoint, sweeping views of the Andes
- Optional: Sky Costanera — the tallest tower in Latin America with a 360° observation deck
Back on board with time to spare
Santiago is the longest drive from either port, so we plan the day backwards from your all-aboard time, with extra margin for the return, and follow traffic on Ruta 68 or Ruta 78 live. When we quote, we confirm what time you’ll be back at the terminal.

Frequently asked questions
Is the drive to Santiago worth it if I only have 10 hours in port?
Yes, if you leave the port by 08:00. With 3-4 hours in Santiago city centre you can cover the historic core, La Moneda, Santa Lucía and San Cristóbal — the essentials. If your window is shorter, we recommend the Valparaíso hills + Casablanca winery combination instead.
Can we stop for wine tasting on the way?
Yes. We can add a Casablanca Valley winery on the outbound leg or Concha y Toro (Pirque) on the return; it extends the day by about 2 hours.
What if traffic on Ruta 78 or Ruta 68 is unusually bad?
We monitor traffic live and use alternative routes (Ruta 5 Norte for parts of the return) when needed. Our return margin covers most delays.
