Valparaíso is best understood on foot. This walking tour starts at your hotel and heads to Plaza Sotomayor, in the historic heart of the lower town; from there we ride a funicular up to Cerro Alegre and Cerro Concepción, two of the neighbourhoods that best tell the port’s story.
Over three hours, your guide takes you along Paseo Yugoslavo, the steep, colourful cobbled streets of Cerro Alegre’s heritage zone, an art gallery showing work by local artists, and the Atkinson and Gervasoni promenades, with some of the best views in the city. Murals appear at every turn: the street art that has turned Valparaíso into an open-air museum.

Frequently asked questions
How is it different from the street art tour?
This route is broader: it starts at Plaza Sotomayor, rides the El Peral funicular up to Paseo Yugoslavo and explores Cerro Alegre and Cerro Concepción, with their viewpoints, an art gallery and the murals along the way. The street art tour focuses on the murals and the artists behind them.
How much walking is involved?
About three hours on foot, with the steep streets and stairways typical of Valparaíso. The climb to Cerro Alegre is done on the El Peral funicular. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and bring a hat in summer.
Which days and times does it run?
Every day, Monday to Sunday, with two departures: 10:00 am and 3:00 pm.
