- 7 hours
- Chilean palm
- Box lunch and park entrance included

- Specialist guide
The Ocoa sector of La Campana National Park holds the largest surviving grove of Chilean palms (Jubaea chilensis): thousands of specimens of an endemic, extremely slow-growing species found nowhere else in the world. Seeing them in their valley, with the Coastal Range behind, is one of the most unusual natural experiences in central Chile.
This private excursion leaves early from your hotel for the Ocoa valley at the foot of La Campana hill. From the ranger station we walk the marked trails to see the palms, with a specialist guide who explains the history of the grove and the park’s landscape, and stops to photograph the forest and the valley. Park entrance, box lunch and mineral water are included.

What’s special about the Chilean palm?
It’s a species endemic to central Chile, extremely slow-growing and very long-lived, that came close to disappearing. The Ocoa grove is the largest that survives and is protected within the national park.
How difficult is the walk?
Moderate: marked trails with uphill sections. Normal fitness and hiking shoes are required.
How is it different from the Olmué sector?
Olmué explores the native forest on the western slope of La Campana hill; Ocoa is the palm-grove valley, with a different landscape and flora. They’re two distinct, complementary excursions.
Is it suitable for children?
It isn’t recommended for young children because of the length and effort involved. Ask us about the minimum age for your date.
What’s in the box lunch?
A light lunch with mineral water to eat in the park. Let us know about any dietary restrictions when booking.
