Valparaíso is a port city on the coast of Chile. It is known for its elevated cable cars and its colorful houses on cliffs. La Sebastiana, used to be the Chilean Poet Pablo Neruda´s extravagant home;
and nowdays It works as a museum and offers sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. During the Nineteenth Century, a large influence of European immigrants left its mark in the architecture and in cultural Institutions of the city. Most of these buildings are located within the area of Sotomayor Square in the city centre. We can also find Colonial buildings, such as La Matriz Church. The Cultural Park of Valparaíso is an innovative center 0located within a former prison. Inside the majestic mansion is the Museum of Fine Arts, which has a collection of Impressionist and Chilean art. The revitalized historic districts of the hillside, such as Cerro Concepción and Cerro Alegre, are brimming with activity thanks to their boutique hotels, chic restaurants and art galleries. The National Maritime Museum compiles the Nautical history of Chile, with the Pacific War as its central theme.
